A highly experienced web developer with an extensive knowledge of client side and server side technologies, Ben has worked with and often led the development of projects for clients such as the BBC, Ben Sherman, Channel 4, EMI, the NHS, Paul Macartney, Sony Music, Virgin Galactic and numerous departments within the UK government.

He was solely responsible for introducing the use of standards driven web development to the largest graduate recruitment service in the UK during his employment at Milkround Online in 2004/2005.

Ben has also received recognition and acclaim for the projects Flickrshow and Delineate and for the design of his personal web site Beseku.

Technical Lead, Outside Line Apr 07—Present

As the Technical Lead at Outside Line, Ben oversees all HTML/CSS/Javascript and server-side solutions provided to clients such as EMI, KT Tunstall, Paul McCartney, Sony Music and Virgin Galactic. He is also responsible for the introduction of MVC and object-oriented development and standardising practices throughout the studio.

A vital member of the web development team at Cimex, one of the top 50 media companies in the country, Ben was responsible for developing highly accessible, usable web sites for the UK government and organisations ranging from Channel 4 to Permira. He also provided the company with an innovative and agile approach to problem solving and harnessing technologies in new and experimental ways.

Senior Web Developer, Milkround Online Jun 04—Apr 05

As an ASP developer and the resident web standards advocate, Ben played a crucial role in the development and design of the Milkround website and the web applications they provide for companies such as Accenture, ABN AMRO and the NHS. Working within a small company, Ben quickly established himself as a versatile and reliable member of the team.

Expanding on skills learned throughout his degree, Ben provided technical and design services in the development of numerous web based applications and promotional graphics for the studio and bookmakers around the country. He was also a senior studio operator and integral member of the team working in a high-pressure sports studio environment.

Education & qualifications

Bsc (Hons), University of Surrey Sep 00—Jun 04

In addition to being awarded a bachelors degree with honours, (second class upper division) in Computing and Information Technology, Ben represented the University of Surrey at the IBM Thinkpad Challenge and scored 75% for his dissertation on automatically generating semantic HTML. He was also awarded university colours for services to sport and was elected chairman of the Fencing club as well as holding the men’s team captaincy during 2004.
